West Coast in DANGER from NUKE FALLOUT
« on: March 11, 2011, 10:02:39 PM »

Image of the Jet Stream from Japan to the U.S.

Why would the west coast USA be in danger?

The prevailing jet stream winds are blowing from Japan directly across the Pacific ocean to the west coast of the United States. Any airborne radiation would make its way across with the jet stream, reaching the U.S. in approximately 36 hours, depending on the actual speed of the jet.

Not only would such a disaster be horrible for the local region and Japan, but other countries, namely the U.S. would be effected next by airborne radiation particles, the magnitude of which is yet to be determined.

California is closely monitoring efforts to contain leaks from a quake-damaged Japanese nuclear plant, a spokesman said Saturday, as experts said radiation could be blown out across the Pacific. Experts have suggested that, if there were a reactor meltdown or major leak at Fukushima, the radioactive cloud would likely be blown out east across the Pacific, towards the US West Coast. "The wind direction for the time being seems to point the (nuclear) pollution towards the Pacific," said Andre-Claude Lacoste of the French Nuclear Safety Authority, briefing journalists in Paris on the Japanese crisis.

Welcome to RadiationNetwork.com, home of the National Radiation Map, depicting environmental radiation levels across the USA, updated in real time every 3 minutes.  This is the first web site where the average citizen (or anyone in the world) can see what radiation levels are anywhere in the USA at any time:

thank you for the links.
someone sent me this one}

http://modernsurvivalblog.com/nuclear/west-coast-usa-danger-if-japan-nuclear-reactor-meltdown/

from it comes this}

Update, 13-Mar-2011, 2200 UTC
There is now a virtual blackout on the situation around Fukushima Japan due to the 20 km (13 miles) evacuation zone, which I’ve determined to mean a 10 km radius (20 mile diameter) zone. The only new information will come from government filtered statements, or someone working on the disaster who leaks out information.

The only new real information that has come out lately, and it’s not good news, is that the Reactor No. 3 at Fukushima is different from Reactor No. 1 in that it uses some amount of ‘MOX‘ fuel, also known as Mixed Oxide – meaning uranium mixed with plutonium. The plutonium itself evidently comes from decommissioned or surplus weapons-grade material, which would otherwise have been disposed of as nuclear waste.

“IF” Reactor No. 3 were to meltdown completely and release into the environment by either an explosion or otherwise, the fact that there is plutonium in the mix would make the disaster even worse. Much worse.  (working on more facts about this)[/i]

Any suggestions as to where to go to get away from our west coast?
.. looks like dodging it could hit or miss.

When I relate this to discussions for gun control = public safety
I wish they'd stretch the idea ..
I am against gun control but this is way different

this isn't good ..

"Update, 14-Mar-2011, 153000 UTC
meltdown

FOX news just reported that Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary said “…although we cannot check it, it is highly likely it is happening”, a meltdown is underway. The fuel rods are melting in all three troubled reactors.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. says the exposure happened at Unit 2 of the Fukushima Daiichi plant because a steam vent wouldn’t open Monday, causing a sudden drop of water.

They cannot see what is going on inside the reactors – it is too dangerous – but they have concluded that a meltdown (as opposed to their recent term ‘partial meltdown’) is underway."

The lamestream media all day had experts on saying we shouldn't be worried about a "meltdown" and I'm not sure I believe that. How does something explode that high up and still have a container around it? It's like saying your house blew up but the stuff inside where it blew up from is intact because the explosion was inside a fireproof safe so the safe is still there. Really? They have to be covering it up.

Usagi, IF the "core" had blown, no one would be in the area trying to cool the rods, their would be no need.

I hope that's correct, but if cesium and radioactive iodine are present, that could mean the thing has a serious leak.

Having a leak and the thing blowing shy high are two VERY different things.

Build your Kearny Fallout Meter (KFM) from "scratch" with the FREE plans below

It has everything needed to make and use a radiation measuring device. Accurately measures dose rates from 30 mR/hr (0.03 R/hr) up to 43 R/hr. The KFM has undergone rigorous scientific testing in several laboratories where its accuracy and dependability were confirmed. Including Oak Ridge National Laboratory where it was developed by Cresson H. Kearny, author of Nuclear War Survival Skills. Designed to be assembled by a junior high age student, thousands of KFM's have been built worldwide. The kit comes with all the parts and very detailed construction, operating and testing instructions in 12 large pages covering the plans on this page, plus extra info! The KFM kit also has some of the critical construction steps below completed for you. Also includes a free (non-working) smoke detector to use as a safe radioactive testing source. And, it does not require a battery.

Surgeon General: Buying Iodine a "Precaution"

Conflicting messages appear in the effort to buy iodide tablets

By LORI PREUITT

 Tue, Mar 15, 2011

The fear that a nuclear cloud could float from the shores of Japan to the shores of California has some people making a run on iodine tablets. Pharmacists across California report being flooded with requests.

State and county officials spent much of Tuesday trying to keep people calm by saying that getting the pills wasn't necessary, but then the United States surgeon general supported the idea as a worthy "precaution."

U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin is in the Bay Area touring a peninsula hospital. NBC Bay Area reporter Damian Trujillo asked her about the run on tablets and Dr. Benjamin said although she wasn't aware of people stocking up, she did not think that would be an overreaction. She said it was right to be prepared.

On the other side of the issue is Kelly Huston of the California Emergency Management Agency. Hoston said state officials, along with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the California Energy Commission, were monitoring the situation and said people don't need to buy the pills.

"Even if we had a radiation release from Diablo Canyon (in San Luis Obispo County), iodide would only be issued to people living within a 10-mile radius of the plant," Huston added.

Santa Clara County's public health officer Dr. Martin Fenstersheib told the Mercury News he also does not recommend getting the tablets, adding some people can be severely allergic to the iodine.

"There is no reason for doing it," Fenstersheib told the paper.

Either way, the pills are hard to get. eBay prices have skyrocketed.
