Folks, The first Seismic Window of the year is only a little less potent than last month's, which had the strongest tidal forces since 1993.
Jan. 08-15, 2009 is marked by Golden Gate tides of 8.9 ft. only a little below the max. possible range of 9.2 ft. The full Moon of Jan 10 is only 16 hours away from the 2nd closest perigee of the year and 6 days after the Earth/Sun perihelion of Jan 4.
Jan 13-14 will find the highest "Delta" of the year where the tidal range drops from one day to the next by 1.2 ft (= max. of 2009).
Also the next two syzygies (Jan 26 and Feb09) involve eclipses (perfect syzygies) so the alignment is already very close to a llunar eclipse. All of these factors cause me to give an 85% probability for one or more quakes with the following parameters: (1) Within 140 miles of Mt.Diablo, 3.5-6.5M from JaN 8-15, 2009. (2) Within140 miles of Los Angeles a 3.5-6.5M quake " (3) With an epicentral address of WA and/or OR a 3.5-6.5M quake. (4) Globally a major quake of 7.0+M, probably within the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 80% of the world's strongest quakes occur.
(5) A non-scoring expectation of a 5.0+M to be centered in Wyoming between Jan 10-20, 2008. ( So far the max. in the Yellowstone sequence to date has only been rated as 3.9M.) The sequence of morethan 500 quakes there began on Jan. 27th, the day of the new Moon.
I certainly do not advocate immediate evacuatiion of the Yellowstone area, as was urgently recommended by a pseudogeologist.

All I know and feel is something is not quite right today. Only the 6th and not in the window, but woke this morning with a feeling I cannot get rid of for the Bay area, wonder how the animals are in the area today. Going over to look. Shandell

Okay, potency after latency? LOL last month I bet I'm far from the only one that expected big quakes and more action altogether from the almost-record tides. So, that energy surely loosened up some things further and now we have another potent window. The eventual is about to happen? surely a bigger month. I just bought more batteries since this last, long power outage showed me how well the lanterns light up a house and that they last all night if you need or want, but ya dang well better be invested in "D" batteries and they disappeared off the shelves the day after the outage. I think we've got the water and other things covered. Ever since we flooded without flood insurance I've wondered again if we should shop for quake insurance.

It would be worth to note the Northridge happened under a ridge similar to the one we are going to have.
So Jim, you are Green Light on weather effects as well from me.

LOL shandell, I just found this post, and oky dokie. (G)
In the context of the window we are in right now, Jack's cliche comes to mind,
"the greater the quake, the longer the wait." Last month and now this month's full moons surely stressed Mother Earth so much that something......(wow, long right eartone right now.....) is about to go off, one would think in a big way. I can't keep up with what forecasts of his have fulfilled and which haven't, but he's so very much got something concrete and reliable going that I wish I knew which of his aren't satisfied yet. Is an 8mag. about to hit? that is what was on my mind the other night when sadness hit me "out of the blue."
